Reed Diamond – Christmas Special the Second

Once again Culturally Fixated is joined by our Special Correspondent in LA to celebrate Christmas!!

Welcome back to the fabulous, the funny, the festive

REED DIAMOND

daniel whitehall gifWhat a chat!! We cover all sorts of everything – we dove straight in and began discussing Marvel, comics, Agents of SHIELD and Reed’s reunion with Jed Whedon, Mo Tancharoen and Dichen Lachman. From there – it was a hectic head first trip down the rabbit hole as we covered Rossum, Hydra, the spectrum of TV villains and the parallels of the fictional and real world.

Then onto Reed’s insanely busy 2014 – from Wayward Pines to the final season of Franklin and Bash, to working with Malcolm McDowell and his first foray in comedy (on TV anyway), then onto State of Affairs and back again.

REED DIAMOND

as Daniel Whitehall

All the while joined by Monkey (an actual magical monkey) and Donald (the inebriated and obscenely snobby elf). Daniel Whitehall – yup, heartless evil Nazi Hydra leader – even serenaded us with a chilling rendition of Jingle Bells.

Oh and I taught Reed how *not* to say Nollaig Shona (Merry Christmas in Irish).

***LANGUAGE***
We’ve very good. Practically not offensive at all.
***SPOILERS***
Agents of SHIELD. We ruin the living daylights out of the first half of the second season.
And the end part of the first.
Oh, we also assume that everyone is up to speed on Dollhouse and Much Ado About Nothing. Because why wouldn’t you be?

SNL – Marvel Future Films

The premiere of the 40th season of Saturday Night Live was hosted by the ever affable Chris Pratt – star of the Guardians of the Galaxy film.

While the live sketches seemed a bit flat (and surprisingly reliant on cue cards); there were some pre-recorded gems.

Next up! Comic based Movies!!

* * * * * Updated!* * * * *
Ahem, other companies release adaptations too

There are so many adaptations of comics and graphic novels hitting the big screen nowadays that it’s hard to remember that there was once a time when comics were sneered upon in the entertainment world, seen as lesser forms of both art and literature and definitely viewed as being more suited to children and teenagers than adults.

(Don’t believe me? Check out comic book guy from the Simpson’s – a biting inditement on anyone over the age of 18, who would choose to read comics)

Then there was Superman – and we started to believe that a man could fly.

Less than five years later, Batman proved that comic adaptations could be gritty, realistic (ish) and dark.

And since then – a plethora of characters have made the leap from the printed page to silver screen.

Some were wonderful (the first Spiderman film, Blade, MIB). Others…were not (the third Spiderman film, Electra, Ghost Rider). And let’s be fair, there are always going to be a few that you love/loathe regardless of whether the films deserved it (Casper the friendly ghost – what can I say? I loved it).

Much as we might wish too, we can’t cover em all, so if you have a “must mention” be it bad or good – make sure you let us know in the comments below!!

My Favourite Things 01 – Marvel Film Universe

I’m a simple soul. Always have been. As a result I take an inordinate amount of delight in things that those around me frequently don’t notice.

It’s the little things in life that can really make a difference.
Finding a fiver in your jeans…before you put the washing on for example. Or in a disused bag and you’ve no idea how long it’s been there.

Enough milk for a single cuppa, when you feared you’d have to leave the house again immediately.

A favourite song that plays at an unexpected moment that loosens you out.

I’m not talking about anything that you’d write home about. Just…simple pleasures.

The end credit scene’s across the Marvel Film Universe series make my toes curl with delight – I get such a kick of out waiting during the credits, watching those not in the know walk out with the somewhat sinful thrill of the initiate. Even if the film doesn’t exactly work for me, I’ll always wait for these!
