Reed Diamond – Christmas Special the Second

Once again Culturally Fixated is joined by our Special Correspondent in LA to celebrate Christmas!!

Welcome back to the fabulous, the funny, the festive

REED DIAMOND

daniel whitehall gifWhat a chat!! We cover all sorts of everything – we dove straight in and began discussing Marvel, comics, Agents of SHIELD and Reed’s reunion with Jed Whedon, Mo Tancharoen and Dichen Lachman. From there – it was a hectic head first trip down the rabbit hole as we covered Rossum, Hydra, the spectrum of TV villains and the parallels of the fictional and real world.

Then onto Reed’s insanely busy 2014 – from Wayward Pines to the final season of Franklin and Bash, to working with Malcolm McDowell and his first foray in comedy (on TV anyway), then onto State of Affairs and back again.

REED DIAMOND

as Daniel Whitehall

All the while joined by Monkey (an actual magical monkey) and Donald (the inebriated and obscenely snobby elf). Daniel Whitehall – yup, heartless evil Nazi Hydra leader – even serenaded us with a chilling rendition of Jingle Bells.

Oh and I taught Reed how *not* to say Nollaig Shona (Merry Christmas in Irish).

***LANGUAGE***
We’ve very good. Practically not offensive at all.
***SPOILERS***
Agents of SHIELD. We ruin the living daylights out of the first half of the second season.
And the end part of the first.
Oh, we also assume that everyone is up to speed on Dollhouse and Much Ado About Nothing. Because why wouldn’t you be?

Wayward Pines Trailer

Really excited to hear that Wayward Pines has been picked up by Fox UK for next year!

BLURB (from Official Website)

Imagine the perfect American town… beautiful homes, manicured lawns, children playing safely in the streets. Now imagine never being able to leave. You have no communication with the outside world. You think you’re going insane. You must be in Wayward Pines.

Secret Service Agent ETHAN BURKE (Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon, “Crash,” “City of Ghosts”) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, searching for two missing federal agents. One of the best Secret Service agents in the Seattle office, he’s the man who knew missing agent KATE HEWSON (Carla Gugino, “Watchmen,” “Entourage”) better than anyone. They were more than partners; their relationship nearly destroyed Ethan’s marriage.

Everything changes when a truck slams into his car…and he wakes up in the Wayward Pines Hospital, with the intense and unpredictable NURSE PAM (Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Melissa Leo, “The Fighter,” “Treme”) at his bedside. It soon appears that Pam is more interested in harming than healing. She and Ethan grow into deadly rivals, and her role in the town proves much deeper than anyone realizes.

As the mysteries within the town pile up, Ethan starts to question his own sanity. He is confronted by the mysterious and charismatic DR. JENKINS (Emmy Award nominee Toby Jones, “The Girl,” the “Harry Potter” franchise), the psychiatrist who treats him at Wayward Pines Hospital. As he begins to meet some of the local residents, including toymaker HAROLD BALLINGER (Reed Diamond, “24,” “Much Ado About Nothing”), Ethan forms a bond with BEVERLY (Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Juliette Lewis, “Hysterical Blindness,” “Cape Fear”), a bartender who is as wary of Wayward Pines as he is.

Back home in Seattle, Ethan’s wife, THERESA BURKE (Shannyn Sossamon, “40 Days and 40 Nights,” “How to Make It in America”), a former Secret Service Agent trainee, is informed by Ethan’s boss, ADAM HASSLER (Tim Griffin, “Prime Suspect”), that early testing shows Ethan was never in the car which was recovered on the side of the road outside of Wayward Pines. They’re still investigating. But this isn’t enough for Theresa. So she sets out on her own search for her husband, along with their teenage son, BEN (Charlie Tahan, “Charlie St. Cloud”).

Meanwhile, Ethan is challenged at every turn by the town’s die-hard residents, especially SHERIFF ARNOLD POPE (Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard, “Crash,” “Hustle & Flow”), who takes offense at a Secret Service agent showing up on his turf. Ethan’s continuing investigation only turns up more and more questions, and each one leads him to the most important question of all: What’s wrong with Wayward Pines?

Here’s the trailer to whet your appetite!

(For the love of all thinks holy, don’t think of Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas – you’ll totally ear worm yourself replacing sons with pines… Just me?)

Christmas Special 2013 – with Reed Diamond

Culturally Fixated is delighted to welcome back  – by popular demand – the wacky, hysterical and musical
Reed Diamond!

For a Spectacular Musical Extravaganza, otherwise known as the
Cult Fix Christmas Special!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, there are no words.
We sing, we dance (thankfully not recorded in the podcast), laugh, cry and hurl.
It’s everything you could ever want in a Reed Diamond Christmas Special.
We discuss The Mentalist, Bones, Franklin and Bash as well as his new series Wayward Pines.
That’s the coherent part.
Reed also introduces you to two of his favourite Christmas scamps, sings and plots and plans his wishes for the future. We also put to rest the Turkey/Goose debate, as well as touching upon absurd crowd pleaser Duck sized Horses.
It’s all of the awesome.

Reed Diamond – Third times the charm!

Culturally Fixated is delighted to welcome back  – by popular demand – the wonderful, delirious and hilarious
Reed Diamond!
In our third annual chat, Reed and I are particularly loopy as we chat about all things Whedon – from his Much Ado About Nothing* experience, to Dollhouse, to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the true story behind being a Whedonite; the completed third season of Franklin and Bash and his guest appearances on Bones and The Mentalist.
Reed and ever-present booze…
From there, it’s obvious that we’d wander onto Shakespeare (where I *hilariously* mis-name the Henry’s (heads desk) and fail to notice (heads desk harder), wine, cheese and twitter. We both get a little ranty … though I’m noticeably more venomous and bitter.
He also hints at a move away from his go-to characters Likable Dick and Hapless Loser…which might explain his current beardy look!

It’s not going too far to say that this has been one of my favourite podcasts to record ever. Any hope for a plan went out the window a few seconds in and I spend half of it in stitches. Reed is a spectacularly awesome person in generally – as any of his followers can attest – who was On Top Form and demonstrates his epic mastery of the English accent.

The Reed Diamond Sequel

Culturally Fixated is delighted to welcome back our good friend and previous guest star (DRUM ROLL PLEASE) – TV’s favourite ‘likable dick‘ (his words – not mine!) – the delightful, spectacular and loquacious Reed Diamond!

* * * * * APOLOGIES * * * * *
From the team that brought you such wonders as the ‘it sounds like they were recorded underwater’ episode – I have to apologise for the poor sound quality of the episode.
The music is set way too loud (I couldn’t figure out how to turn it down. I tried. Seriously I tried.). Steve is barely audible throughout, Reed is set at a solid medium volume and I’m horribly LOUD!!! (I couldn’t figure out how to turn it down. I tried. Seriously I tried. I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW MUCH I TRIED)
But the chat itself was a ton of fun for us and I hope that the patient among you will enjoy it.
ONTO THE EPISODE…

So, it’s Reed. There’s no telling where a conversation could be heading but naturally we talk Franklin and Bash, Joss Whedon, Much Ado About Nothing, Joss Whedon (again), Bones, David Boreanez (whom we might have failed to actually name during that part of the chat!), Superheroes, comics, Ireland, Leeds, York, cheese…actually we might not have mentioned cheese…
We even managed to briefly touch on Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, Memphis Belle, fops, Desperate Housewives, steam trunks…
What? We’re chatty people?
